Keeping Safe
This week has been National Road Safety Week. In assembly on Monday we talked about keeping safe on the roads and the importance of being sensible and making sure that you can be seen especially now there are shorter daylight hours. Please can you also remind child about keeping safe on the roads. If you want further information please look on www.roadsafetyweek.org/ for information about road safety.
School Disco
The Infant and Junior Discos on Friday 13th November once again proved to be very popular events. Thanks go to the BSA for organising the event, the parents who helped and to Luke Shires our DJ. It was good to see so many children enjoying themselves and having fun.
ParentPay - IMPORTANT
A reminder about ParentPay. From January 2010 this secure way of paying for school lunches will be the only way that lunches can be paid for at Byron. The school will not be accepting cash. From this date lunches will have to be paid for using this scheme either online or at pay points. If you missed the letter or have lost it please call into the school office to get a letter.
Football
The Byron football team have played their first three matches over the last couple of weeks. They lost the first one to Kenley 0-6, won the second against Parish Church 3-2 and won the third one against Roke 2-1. Our thanks go to Lee Duggan for training the squad, Mr Madden for organising the team, the boys and girls for playing and of course Mrs Small for washing the kit!! A real team effort by everyone.
Byron Children
Chess – On Saturday 21st November some Byron children took part in the 1st Leg of the Champions League Chess Tournament (Surrey-Croydon). Byron Primary won the Schools' Individuals' Challenge section in a tight event that was only decided in the final match of the competition when Jennifer Freeman completed a score of 14 out of 15 to add to her brother Michael's total of 10. This put them just above their nearest rivals from Woodcote Primary and Keston Primary and made Jenni the highest individual scorer in the event.
Ballroom Dancing – Amber Brench has recently been awarded a medal for achieving a pre-bronze in Ballroom and Latin dance and Helena Griffiths has been awarded a starter star in Ballroom and Latin dance. Well done to both of you!
Children in Need
Many thanks to all of you who contributed to Children in need last week. With your generosity we managed to raise £135 for this very worthwhile cause. Thank you.
School Council
Byron School Council is now up and running after junior classes nominated who they would like to have as their class representatives. The agenda for this term is to help raise awareness of appropriate language in school and reduce the incidents of inappropriate language.
The School Council Members are:

Attendance
We are once again doing our ‘In to Win it’ attendance related reward scheme. Every week each child who attends every day and arrives at school on time will have their name written on a special slip of paper. At the end of term all the slips of paper will be put into a draw for two special prizes – one for the child and one for the parent! There are 14 weeks this term so if your child has attended every day for 14 weeks they will have 14 slips of paper in the draw. Remember you have to be In it to Win it!Class attendance for the last two weeks is as follows:
