Year 3

Welcome to Year 3

Teacher: Mrs Moussaoui

Reading books to take home
Children will be able to choose books from the class Book Corner selection, and take them home. We will not in general be writing down each child’s selections for them, or making individual comments, but each child will be given a Reading Record Book, in which they (or you) can write down the books they read and what they thought of them.

Please be assured that reading with your child at home is still as vital in Year 3 as it was in Reception! Even ‘independent’ readers will gain much from sharing some stories or passages aloud with an adult, and discussing the events, ideas and characters in stories.  For less independent readers, your involvement can add so much to their reading development and progress towards reading independently.

Homework
Your support is also vital in other areas – Maths homework will be sent home on Fridays, relating to work done in Maths lessons during the week. As a rough guide, 20 – 30 minutes at most should be spent on it. If children find it hard, please make a little note of that on the sheet and just encourage / help them to do what they can; the idea is to get them into the routine of homework – not to put them off! I will expect homework in on Monday mornings, and I will be keeping a checklist!

A little later in the term, children will bring spellings home to learn. There will also be occasional ‘one-off’ homework tasks related to different topics.

Water
If possible, I would like children to bring a small bottle of water into class, as it can take some time out of lessons when children need to go downstairs to the water fountain. Bottles should be taken home each day for refilling, and have the child’s name on.

I look forward to meeting you soon; there will be a Parents Evening with appointments later this term, but if you have any concerns that you feel should not wait until then, please call the office to make an appointment to talk with me. Little worries can seem huge to children, and the sooner we can sort them out, the better!

Best wishes,
Mrs Moussaoui
