Byron Primary School and the Mulberry Bush Pre-School have formed a partnership to provide pre school provision for children aged 2 years and upwards until the academic year they enter the Reception class. The academic year runs from 1st September to 31st August so to enter our Reception class your child must become 5 years old between those dates.

Mulberry Bush is Ofsted inspected and provides the first year of the two year Foundation Stage. The second year is taught in Byron’s Reception year. Nursery age children i.e. those who become 4 years old during an academic year will be housed in the building as you enter the school. It is completely self-contained and as well as a classroom and a quiet room it has a large play area outside. There are toilets and washing facilities.

Younger children are housed in the building shared with Playplus next to the Junior department playground and field. Again it is self contained and has its own classroom, quiet areas and kitchen as well as toilets and outside provision.

The Government provide free sessions for your 3 and 4 year old children. Because of the length of sessions at Mulberry Bush, the children are entitled to 4 free sessions a week. Children become eligible for free Nursery sessions the term after they are 3 years old. Mulberry Bush is open all year including the school holidays, except for 2 weeks at Christmas.

Mulberry Bush provides nursery education with flexibility e.g. it is possible, if you wish, to take your child’s free sessions on 2 afternoons and 1 full day, or two mornings and two afternoons. The free sessions can be wrapped around breakfast, lunch and tea giving you the option of leaving your child at nursery from 8.00 a.m. until 6.00 p.m.
