Byron School Association (BSA)
We need your help!
The BSA is a group of parents who work together organising fundraising and activities for our children. The money raised by the BSA helps to run the school minibus, subsidises trips, funds theatre groups, parties, discos and many other fun activities that your children enjoy. BUT we need volunteers to run it. We have over the past few years had a small group of very hardworking people who have put in a great deal of time. You will very soon be getting a yellow letter home about our first BSA meeting and AGM on Tuesday 6th October at 9.30am. Please do come along and find out more. If you are interested but not able to come to that meeting please let the school office know and someone from the committee will be in touch.
Car Parking
A quick reminder about parking. Please remember not to park on the lines outside the school. This is a really dangerous place to park and it impacts on the safety of both parents and children. This area is regularly controlled by the wardens and they do carry out spot checks and ticket vehicles. Also please do not park in the school grounds as it causes congestion and problems for staff working in the school.
Behaviour in School
At Byron we work very hard to ensure that all of the children have the best opportunities to make the most of their learning time. The vast majority of children at Byron behave very well and we have some children who, for various reasons, need to have special arrangements to help them manage their behaviour. There are, however, a very small number of children who feel that they do not have to follow adult instructions and can at times be disrespectful to school staff or use inappropriate language. These behaviours are not acceptable at Byron or indeed at any other school and will not be tolerated.
We use a range of strategies to address such behaviour including telephone calls home, letters home, parent meetings, working with other support agencies, behaviour plans and internal exclusions (where a child spends the day working in another class away from their peer group during both learning time and playtimes). An external exclusion, where a child is not allowed into school and the local authority is informed, is used as a last resort because in many cases this does not appropriately address the behaviours exhibited. We address all inappropriate behaviour that is brought to our attention by either children or adults.
I am sure that you as parents would wish to continue supporting us in managing your children’s behaviour. Teachers will be continuing to contact the parents of children who are not following the school guidelines and we would ask that you remind your children about the importance of behaving in school and being polite to adults.
Parents also have another very important role to play because we can be the main role models for our children’s behaviour. At Byron we expect all parents to consider their behaviour when on the school premises and to refrain from using inappropriate language to anyone whilst on site. Our children should be able to feel comfortable in and around their school building. I am sure that by continuing to work together we can keep Byron a safe and happy place for everyone – children, parents and staff.
I thank you for your support in this matter.

Parent Volunteers
We would really like to welcome parents into school to read with children or carry out voluntary work in school. In line with safeguarding regulations we would need you to have a check or CRB so that you can be with the children. If you have any time and would like to do this please can you contact Mrs Small at school.
European Day of Languages – Reminder!
Saturday 26th September is the European Day of Languages and to celebrate this day we are holding an assembly on Monday 28th September where children in Key Stage 2 will be sharing some of the work that they do in French. The assembly will take place at 10.30am and we would like to invite parents to join us for this occasion.
Change of dates
The Year 4 Class Assembly will now take place on Friday 27th November not Friday 4th December as originally stated.
Also do not forget Year 6 Assembly Friday 2nd October at 2.45pm
Suggestions Box
We are always looking for new ideas or suggestions about how to do things differently. Please put any suggestions that you may have in the Box which is located in the school entrance area or alternatively come and talk to either myself or Mrs Small. We welcome any ideas that you may have and we are always happy to speak with you.
