Byron Primary School 18 Dec 2009

Number 7 - 18th December 2009

Remember school starts on Monday 4th January

Carol Singing at the Whitgift Centre
On Monday 14th December after school 29 children and 10 staff went Carol Singing on the small stage in the Whitgift Centre to raise money for the Royal Marsden Hospital. It was great fun and the children behaved beautifully and were a credit to the school and their parents! Thank you to all who helped and watched.

Christmas Performances
Thank you to everyone who came to watch the Christmas concerts this week. The children performed really well and we were all proud of the effort that they made. It was a great way to start Christmas. With the Carol Singing collection we have managed to raise £101.67 for the Royal Marsden. Thank you.

Christmas Fair
This was held after the Performance on Tuesday afternoon and proved to be very successful raising £531.10.  A big thank you to the BSA for organising the event. We have one unclaimed raffle prize Green ticket number.

At the Fair, Amber Brench from Year 6 ran her own stall to raise money for Guide Dogs for the Blind. This was her own idea and she organised it all herself raising £27.00 for this very worth while cause. Well done Amber!

Christmas Lunch
Around 30 parents and friends joined us on Thursday 10th December for Christmas lunch. It was a lovely festive occasion and the food was excellent. Thank you all for coming and sharing the occasion with us and also to Mandy, Pat and Trish for doing all the cooking.

School Uniform Reminder for January 2009
Please remember that children must wear named school jumpers and that other coloured sweatshirts, hoodies or jumpers are not to be worn. Please can you make sure that your child brings home the correct named jumper as we have had several jumpers go missing this term.  We will be doing regular spot jumper checks.  Please also remember NO BOOTS in school and school shoes must be worn to and from school.

ParentPay – VERY IMPORTANT
A reminder about ParentPay.  From January 2010 this secure way of paying for school lunches will be the only way that lunches can be paid for at Byron.  The school will not be accepting cash. From this date lunches will have to be paid for using this scheme either online or at pay points.  If you missed the letters or have lost them please call into the school office. If you require a PayPoint card these need to be ordered and when they are used to pay in money the cash does take up to 3 days to credit the account.

The attendance has been very variable this half term as we had a few weeks with very poor attendance due to flu and colds. We are aiming for all classes and children to have 95% attendance. Please do make sure that your child attends school and is on time.

We are beginning to receive requests for Holiday absence. May I please remind you of our Attendance Policy which has been agreed by the Governing Body. For your reference I have attached the section on granting Leave of Absence to the back of this Newsletter.

‘In it to win it’
The draw for this prestigious award took place this morning. There were 2 prizes this time – one for Infants and one for Juniors. Congratulations to Phoebe Coleman who received a Penguin Pile-Up game and to Storm-Cianne Ellis who received an Extreme Boppit. Both parents were given a lovely Christmas Azalea.
We will be doing the scheme again next term.

Remember you have to be ‘In it to win it’!

Road Safety
Please take care during the holidays and remember in the dark winter evenings to:
